SO HOW YA DOIN'?
Don't disappoint. Valentine's Day is approaching. Fast. Flowers, chocolate, balloons, dinner? Are those in the works? If so, you're off to a good start--read on for a better start and finish. Except if you're female. Please don't ever buy your guy flowers.
We may like them. We may not be able to distinguish a hybiscus from heliotrope, but we may see some growing in a field while we're hunting or golfing and think to ourselves, "those are kinda nice", but we don't want any inside. Not for us. So please, forget the flowers.
Chocolate? Very tasty, but face it; most of us guys already have a little donelop (where the belly done lop over our belts) so again, please spare us. Save your money and our expanding waistlines.
Balloons? Not since we were ten. So again, if you insist, we won't complain. Until trash day, when we have to stuff the partially deflated orb into a can to be picked up. Save us the hassle.
Cards? Yes, we still like them. But that's not enough. Even the great homemade or computer generated ones with special pictures created by our high tech wives. So what's left?
A trip to your local Christian bookstore. I'm wanting a small, but not microscopic Bible to carry while traveling. But there are realms of possibilites. You simply won't be able to leave the store without something for your sweetie.
And how ya doin' on your reading the Bible from cover to cover for 2008? If you're lagging, you can still get started or you can suggest your honey to begin by purchasing a Read the Bible in one year book. So what if it's not in the 2008 calendar year. Or buy the one for 90 days. You won't be sorry. And even if you don't finish, you'll have had an opportunity to be with God for a certain amount of time, and that's valuable.
One final suggestion; don't buy the Christian book at Wal-Mart. Please support a Christian bookstore. You may spend a little more, but you're backing a sure winner. And notice when you walk in to the store what a different, warm feeling you have. Almost like going into church.
Happy Valentine's Day!
